Project_Magi

Magi is a  3D first person shooter game made in a game jam. 

The crucial idea is to make the combination of the portal and ancient spells together into a shoot-em-up combat puzzle game.

You can freely explore to find clues and fight against ancient enemies to solve the puzzle.

In this project, I play the role of game designer and level designer.

Design ideas


Planning of the area

1 Cave area (Teaching and experimentation)

2 Castle area (Puzzle solving and combat)

3 Tower area (Tests and challenges)

Overall the three locations give the player three different styles and challenges, with increasing levels of environment and complexity in that order. At the same time, the player is free to go back and forth, using portals to return to previous areas at junctions.


1 Tutorial



The starting point

  • I've just used a spot that is as narrow and safe as possible but simultaneously has a mystery that drives it forward.

    This design gives the player enough time to get used to the game without information overload by following a more concise objective.


The spawn point

  • The hole above is impossible to return to, using the environmental narrative to give the player some guesswork as to how to get there and z consciously brings in the impression of already being in the puzzle.




Check Point

  • The check point set before the challenge ensures that subsequent players can quickly try and learn if they fail.




Challenge

  • Solving the puzzle of Current section through the successful use of the core mechanism is necessary, this ensures that players are equipped to deal with problems in all subsequent playthroughs.
